Position Summary
DarkStar Intelligence seeks a Software Engineer to develop, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse software systems. These systems include processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets, real-time systems, and business management information systems, all based on documented requirements. The role requires working both individually and as part of a team to review and test software components for design compliance, document test results, and resolve software problem reports. The engineer will utilize appropriate software development and design methodologies and provide specific input on system design, including hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, and the use of Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) or Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS) products in place of new development. Additionally, the position involves conducting requirements analysis and synthesis from the system level to individual software components.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse software systems, including processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets, real-time systems, and business management information systems based on documented requirements.
  • Review and test software components to ensure they meet design requirements, and document the test results comprehensively.
  • Resolve software problem reports efficiently to ensure system reliability and performance.
  • Utilize appropriate software development and design methodologies tailored to the specific development environment to maximize efficiency and quality.
  • Provide detailed input on software components of system design, including hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse strategies, and the use of Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS)/Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS) products.
  • Conduct requirements analysis and synthesis from the system level to individual software components to ensure coherent and integrated system functionality.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Top Secret/SCI
  • Current Fullscope Polygraph
  • A minimum of twenty (20) years of experience as a Software Engineer (SWE) in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, an additional four (4) years of SWE experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted.

  • Develop and implement algorithms to meet system performance and functional standards.
  • Assist in developing and executing test procedures for software components.
  • Analyze system performance standards, user feedback, system flow, data usage, and work processes to develop software solutions.
  • Modify software to correct errors, adapt to new hardware, or improve performance.
  • Design, develop, and modify software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict outcomes and design consequences.
  • Design and implement complex algorithms adhering to strict timing, resource, or interface constraints.
  • Perform quality control on team products.
  • Oversee software development teams, ensuring adherence to process constraints.
  • Collaborate with system and hardware engineers to derive software requirements and understand project limitations and capabilities.
  • Coordinate software system installation and monitor equipment to ensure specifications are met.
  • Recommend new technologies and processes for complex software projects.
  • Serve as the technical lead for multiple software development teams.
  • Select software development processes in coordination with customers and system engineering.
  • Ensure quality control for all developed and modified software.
  • Delegate programming and testing responsibilities to teams and monitor their performance
Salary Range 
$220,000 - $260,000 per year
This pay range is a general guideline and not a guarantee of specific compensation or salary. When extending an offer, DarkStar Intelligence considers various factors, including (but not limited to) the job's responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, market data alignment, applicable bargaining agreements (if any), and other relevant laws.
